STOP writing friends, family members, and teachers who IGNORE said female protagonist when she goes to them and tells them how uncomfortable this jerk wad makes her feel, but they either ignore her or encourage to KEEP SEEING HIM because somehow that will ”help” her??? (or his needs are more important than her comfort)
Just…please…STOP making money off of something that continues to perpetuate rape culture and tells teenage girls (and women of all ages in general) that“you’re a freak if you aren’t falling head of over heels for the ‘bad stalker boy’ and you should thank your lucky stars that he’s into you at all, and you BETTER give in to his every whim and desire and let him use you until he’s done and when he does drop you after abusing you, don’t blame him because it’s somehow YOUR fault!”
And readers? STOP giving these assholes your time and money–demand change from the writers, the publishers, the industry; this is not healthy, this is not NORMAL, and we need to STOP allowing them to “normalize” it
i told myself i wasn’t gonna watch 13 reasons why and then my friend was like alright listen up i totally ship alex and zach and i was like that’s a weird combination lemme watch it
so i ended up watching the entire season in like a day whoops
but i figured a lot of people don’t want to/can’t watch it for whatever reason but would still want to enjoy some good Gay Shit ™ plus i wanted to point out everything i noticed in season 2 because honestly zach and alex are actually adorable together
(SPOILERS AND SLIGHT TRIGGER WARNING >> talk about attempted suicide <<)
originally i was gonna make this a list of things with occasional gifs but then i got carried away so now i’m basically going off of random things i think of in no chronological order whatsoever (but still with gifs)
zach would much rather sit with alex rather than his other friends. like zach has this reputation and even alex knows that, and yet he still sits with alex rather than his more popular friends.
when zach was getting beat in the huge in-school fight, alex, despite being crippled, immediately smacks monty with his cane, which of course leads him to get pushed to the ground. when zach sees him being pushed, he forgets everything and pushes past people to help alex, because he’s his number one priority. even though monty basically traumatized him last season alex still found a way to fight against him because of zach
the way zach get’s hella jealous when alex says someone else was helping with with PT is adorable, like “i was helping you i thought we had a thing what happened ??” which is a small scene but adorable
both alex and zach have suffered with depressing/suicidal thoughts and they constantly have each other’s sides. something that goes unnoticed is when zach is saying how alex texted him late at night saying he had a gun and didn’t respond and he stops himself from saying the words “shot yourself in the head” which could either be zach being the sweet person he is or trying not to trigger or harm alex.
alex literally got a boner because of zach and the physical contact and zach handles it so nicely. he doesn’t make fun of alex or call him names like other boys would do he basically says he’s proud of him that he’s actually able to get turned on and yes it may be awkward but because zach didn’t make it worse it shows that he really does care for alex. and leading from that in the second to last episode when alex was saying how he had gotten off 3 times that morning zach’s immediate reaction was ew wtf why are you telling me this and alex was like well i thought you’d be proud because i have a functioning body (obviously i’m not using actual quotes cuz i’m too lazy to look them up but i’m basically saying what they said) and then zach was like you know what yeah i am proud good job man and they just continued until another scene i’ll bring up later
something else that goes unnoticed is how zach literally drives alex to school every fucking day like wow that takes some dedication especially from the type of guy zach was put out to be in the first season (baseball rich guy asshole). yes some other people get rides but it’s usually from people you’d expect, definitely not the popular baseball guy driving the mysterious quiet guy.
oh and can we talk about the PT like of course they don’t give much background on how it came to be zach being the one helping him but the fact that he actually takes it seriously and although they had a fight at one point and zach got out and said he wasn’t helping alex they both calmed down and zach still ended up helping alex. this is a lot like the scene with monty and alex in one of the last episodes where monty straight up leaves alex even though he can barely walk and monty and alex were actually good friends at one point, whereas i’m pretty sure zach and alex became friends only recently.
now referring to one of the more iconic scenes, bros don’t slow dance with each other.
now i know some pretty sweet and helpful guys like zach, but i’m 99% sure they wouldn’t slow dance with their best bro if given the chance. and the way alex like GRABS onto zach like yeah i know it’s for balance but he just trusts him so much and completely puts all of his balance on this one man and puts every ounce of trust he has into it. like hun i can barely trust my friends to do that and i don’t have a half-functioning leg.

Repeat after me: All of your faves are problematic. Every single one of them, even if they haven’t messed up in front of you yet. Stop putting people on pedestals, let them try their best, let them fail, engage them in discourse about how they can do better without attacking them. When people fuck up, treat them how you would want to be treated when you fuck up. Also? Take no shit. If someone messes up, not telling them doesn’t help them.
